Understanding Your Commission

Understanding Your Commission

Category: Groomers Reading time: 4 min

Groomera tracks your earnings automatically based on the commission rates your shop owner has set for your profile. This guide explains exactly how commission is calculated, where to find your earnings summary, and how tips are handled.

How Your Commission Is Calculated

You earn a percentage of the revenue from every appointment you complete. Your rates are configured by your shop owner and visible in your profile.

There are two separate commission fields:

Field

What It Means

Revenue Commission %

Your percentage of the service fee charged to the client

Tip Commission %

Your percentage of any tip the client leaves

Example

Say your rates are set to:

  • Revenue Commission: 50%
  • Tip Commission: 100%

A client books a Full Groom at $70 and leaves a $15 tip.

Component

Amount

Your Earnings

Service fee

$70

$35.00 (50%)

Tip

$15

$15.00 (100%)

Total

$85

$50.00

This calculation runs automatically for every completed appointment — you don't need to do any math.

Where to View Your Earnings

  1. Log in to your specialist portal
  2. Go to My Earnings (or My Profile → Earnings)
  3. You'll see:

- Total commission earned for the current period - Breakdown of service commission vs. tip commission - Earnings by completed appointment - A selectable date range to review any period

Use the date filter to view earnings by week, month, or custom range. This is your personal earnings record — it reflects only your appointments, not other specialists'.

What Counts Toward Your Earnings

Commission is calculated from bookings that are marked COMPLETED. A booking that's confirmed but not yet marked complete won't appear in your earnings until it's updated.

This is why marking appointments complete at the end of each session matters — not just for the shop's records, but for your own earnings accuracy.

If you notice a completed appointment that isn't showing in your earnings:

  1. Check that the booking has COMPLETED status (open it and verify)
  2. If it's still showing as CONFIRMED, mark it complete
  3. Your earnings should update within moments

Your Commission Rates

Your commission percentages are set by your shop owner. You can view — but not edit — your rates in your profile.

To check your rates:

  1. Go to My Profile in your portal
  2. Look for the Commission section
  3. Your revenue and tip percentages are listed there

If your rates look incorrect — for example, they don't match what was agreed when you were hired — raise it with your shop owner. They control the commission settings from the owner dashboard. Changes apply to future bookings from the point they're updated, not retroactively.

How Tips Work

Tip commission is handled separately from service commission. If your tip rate is set to 100%, you keep the full tip from every appointment. If it's set to a lower percentage (say, 80%), the remainder is pooled at the shop level.

Your shop owner sets the tip policy. The percentage in your profile is the definitive number — if you have questions about the policy, that's the best conversation to have with your owner directly.

Earnings Aren't Payroll

Your Groomera earnings summary shows what you've earned based on the commission structure in the platform. This is not the same as your paycheck.

How and when your owner pays you — bank transfer, check, cash, payroll software — is handled outside Groomera. Your earnings summary is a record you can reference to verify the amounts are correct before or after payment.

Use it to:

  • Confirm your earnings for a period match what you were paid
  • Spot any appointments that weren't counted (usually because they're not marked COMPLETED)
  • Have an informed conversation with your owner if something looks off

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My earnings look lower than expected. What should I check?

First, check that all your appointments for the period are marked COMPLETED — unconfirmed or still-active appointments won't count. Then verify the date range you're viewing covers the full period you're checking. If it still looks wrong after those checks, review the individual appointment entries to see which ones were counted and which weren't.

Q: A tip isn't showing up in my earnings.

Tips appear in your earnings when the booking is marked complete and the tip was recorded as part of that booking. If a client tipped in cash and it wasn't logged in the system, it won't appear here — cash tips are between you and the client. Only digitally-processed tips through the booking flow are tracked in Groomera.

Q: Can I see a client's payment method or total charge?

No. You can see the service fee and tip amount associated with your bookings, but not full payment details or card information. That stays with the owner's Stripe account.

Q: My commission rate changed and I wasn't told. What happened?

Commission rate changes are made by the shop owner and take effect immediately for future bookings. There's no automatic notification sent to you when a rate changes. If you notice a discrepancy, compare your current rate in your profile to what you expected and speak with your owner.
