How to Leave a Review

How to Leave a Review

Category: Clients Reading time: 2 min

After your appointment is marked complete, you'll receive an email from the shop with a link to leave a Google review. Here's what that looks like, how to do it, and why it matters for small businesses.

The Review Request Email

Within a short time of your appointment finishing, you'll receive an email from the shop asking for your feedback. It will include a direct link to their Google review page — one click and you're there.

You don't need a special account or any setup. As long as you have a Google account (Gmail, Google Workspace, or any Google-linked account), you can leave a review in about 60 seconds.

How to Leave Your Review

  1. Open the review request email
  2. Click the Leave a Review link
  3. You'll be taken directly to the shop's Google Business profile
  4. Sign in to your Google account if you aren't already
  5. Click the star rating (1–5 stars)
  6. Write a short comment if you'd like — even a sentence or two is helpful
  7. Click Post

That's it. Your review is live immediately.

What to Write

You don't need to write an essay. A short, honest review is more helpful than a long one that took you ages to write. A few things worth mentioning if they stand out:

  • The specialist who helped you and how they were with your pet
  • How your pet looked after the appointment
  • Whether the shop was easy to book, on time, and professional
  • Whether you'd come back (and why)

Examples of genuinely helpful short reviews:

"Bella came home looking amazing — Max was so gentle with her. Will definitely be back every 6 weeks."
"Easy to book online, right on time, and my dog actually seemed calm the whole way home for once. That never happens. Very impressed."
"Quick nail trim, no fuss. Friendly staff. In and out in 20 minutes. Perfect."

You don't owe the shop a 5-star review — leave what accurately reflects your experience. Honest reviews are what actually help future customers make good decisions.

Why It Matters

For a small grooming business, Google reviews are one of the primary ways new clients decide to book. A few extra genuine reviews can make a real difference to a local shop — especially one that's just getting started or growing its client base.

If you had a great experience, taking 60 seconds to say so is a genuinely meaningful way to support the business.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I didn't receive a review request email.

Review request emails are sent automatically when the shop marks your appointment as completed. If you didn't receive one, it may have landed in your spam folder — search for the shop's name. Alternatively, the shop may not have marked the appointment complete yet. You can always leave a Google review directly by searching for the shop on Google, without waiting for the email.

Q: I don't have a Google account. Can I still leave a review?

Google reviews require a Google account. If you don't have one, you can create a free Google account at google.com. Alternatively, some shops may also be listed on Yelp or Facebook, where you may already have an account.

Q: I left a review but I want to edit it.

Go to Google Maps, search for the shop, and find your existing review. Click the three-dot menu on your review and select Edit review. Make your changes and save.

Q: I had a bad experience. Should I still leave a review?

Yes — honest reviews help future customers. If something went wrong, a fair, factual account of what happened is more useful than silence. Consider contacting the shop directly first to give them a chance to make it right, then leave your review based on how the full experience (including how they handled it) went.
