Appointment Reminders — What to Expect

Appointment Reminders — What to Expect

Category: Clients Reading time: 3 min

After you book an appointment, you'll receive automatic reminders before it — so you never have to worry about forgetting. Here's what to expect, when to expect it, and what to do with each message.

Your Confirmation Email

The first message you receive is your booking confirmation email, sent immediately after you complete your booking.

It includes:

  • Your appointment date, time, and service
  • The name of your specialist
  • The shop's address
  • The shop's contact information
  • Their cancellation policy

Keep this email. It has everything you need for your appointment and is your primary reference if anything changes.

Reminder Emails

As your appointment gets closer, you'll receive two reminder emails:

When It Sends

What It Contains

2 days before

Full appointment details — date, time, specialist, service, shop address

1 day before

A final reminder with the same details

These emails come from the shop's Groomera account and will reference the shop's name in the subject line and sender field. If you don't see them, check your spam or junk folder and search for the shop's name.

SMS Reminders

If you provided a mobile phone number when booking, and the shop has SMS reminders enabled, you'll also receive two text messages:

When It Sends

What It Says

Day before your appointment

A reminder with your appointment time and specialist's name

Morning of your appointment

A quick heads-up that your appointment is today

The texts come from a Groomera number on behalf of the shop. They'll reference the shop's name and your pet's name so you know exactly which appointment they're about.

How to Confirm Your Appointment

You don't need to reply to reminder emails to confirm. Your booking is already confirmed from the moment you completed it.

Some shops include a reply YES to confirm request in their SMS reminders. If you see this, replying YES is a nice courtesy that helps the shop know you're coming — but it won't change your booking status if you don't.

How to Opt Out of SMS Reminders

If you'd prefer not to receive text reminders, reply STOP to any SMS reminder you receive. You'll be immediately removed from future texts for that shop.

You'll still receive email reminders after opting out of SMS, as long as you provided a valid email when booking.

⚠️ Opting out is permanent until you re-opt-in. To start receiving SMS again, reply START to any message from that number.

The Review Request Email

After your appointment is marked as completed by the shop, you'll receive one more email — a request to leave a Google review for the shop.

This is entirely optional. If you had a great experience, taking 60 seconds to leave a review makes a real difference for a small business. If it's not something you'd like to do, simply ignore the email — there's no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm not receiving reminder emails. What should I check?

First, check your spam or junk folder and search for the shop's name. If you find them there, mark them as Not Spam to fix future deliverability. If they're not in spam either, it's possible the email address on your booking has a typo — contact the shop to verify and correct it.

Q: I'm not receiving SMS reminders even though I provided my number.

A few things could cause this: SMS reminders may not be enabled for the specialist you booked with (it's an optional feature shops activate), your number may have been entered incorrectly, or you may have previously opted out. Contact the shop to check.

Q: I received a reminder for an appointment I already cancelled. Is that normal?

If you cancelled the appointment but the shop didn't update the booking status in their system, reminders may still go out. Contact the shop directly to confirm the cancellation was processed.

Q: Can I get my reminders sent to a different email or phone number?

Reminders go to the contact details you provided when booking. If you need to update them, contact the shop — they can update your information on their end.

Q: I don't want any reminders at all. Can I turn them off?

You can opt out of SMS by replying STOP to any text. For email reminders, there's no self-serve opt-out — contact the shop and ask them to remove your email from the booking or update your contact record.
